Kazakhstan has secured eighth place in the overall standings at the 2026 Summer Asian Games in Japan. On Saturday, October 3, the final full day of competition, the national team won seven medals, though none were gold, according to infohub.kz.
All seven medals were silver. Judokas and water polo players lost to Japan in team finals. Merey Kabdullayev became vice-champion in jiu-jitsu in the under-85 kg weight category.
Two more bronzes came from wrestlers Nurkhoja Kaipanov (under 74 kg) and Nilufar Raimova (under 57 kg). Jiu-jitsu athlete Marian Zhuravleva (under 63 kg) also reached the third step of the podium. And Kazakhstan's rhythmic gymnastics team won bronze in the first group all-around in Asian Games history.
October 4 will feature only final rounds in two show jumping disciplines. In the second round with jumps up to 1.5 meters, Kazakhstan will be represented by Oleg Sokolenko and Nurila Turisbekova.
The national team will finish the 2026 Asian Games in eighth place in the overall standings regardless. This is the best result since Incheon 2014, where Kazakhstan was fourth. In Jakarta 2018, the team placed ninth, and in Hangzhou 2022, 11th.
