Modern pentathlon competition for men and women has begun at the 20th Summer Asian Games in Japan, infohub.kz reports.
The sport combines fencing, show jumping, swimming, and laser pistol run-and-shoot. The fencing seeding qualification round was held on Wednesday.
In the men's bracket, Kazakhstan's Temirlan Abdraimov finished second. In the preliminary stage, he recorded 27 victories and eight defeats. Lev Chuvashov, Tikhon Varyokhin, and Kirill Stadnik placed 13th, 14th, and 16th respectively in qualification. All three recorded 20 wins and 15 losses.
In the women's fencing qualification, Diana Shchedrova was the top Kazakh, finishing 12th (19-13). Ayana Kazbekova took 16th place (17-15). Yuliana Petrova finished 22nd (14-18).
The women's modern pentathlon semifinals begin on September 17. The men will compete at the same stage a day later.
