Kazakhstan's oil refineries did not ship AI-92 gasoline to the Russian Federation in 2026, the Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Kazakhstan told TASS, according to infohub.kz.
The ministry stressed that export supplies of fuel are possible only if relevant international agreements are reached and domestic market needs are fully met.
"Export volumes are realized subject to the achievement of relevant international agreements, as well as the unconditional satisfaction of the needs of the domestic market of the Republic of Kazakhstan. In this regard, shipments of AI-92 motor gasoline from refineries of the Republic of Kazakhstan to the Russian Federation were not carried out in 2026," TASS quoted the Energy Ministry as saying.
In late August, Reuters, citing four industry sources, reported that major Kazakh refineries did not use their allocated quotas for July-August to export AI-92 gasoline to Russia.
The export of gasoline from Kazakhstan is banned by all modes of transport. The restriction was introduced to saturate the domestic market and curb illegal fuel exports amid higher prices in neighboring countries. The exception applies only to fuel in a vehicle's standard tank.
Earlier, Kursiv wrote that on August 25, Energy Minister Yerlan Akkenzhenov said there were no official gasoline exports from Kazakhstan. He noted, however, that it is virtually impossible to estimate the volume of fuel transported across the border as part of so-called "fuel tourism."
