Kazakhstan's female athletes failed to reach the final of the 10m air rifle shooting competition at the 2026 Asian Games in Japan, infohub.kz reports.
Alexandra Le posted the best result for the team, scoring 628.5 points in qualification to finish 15th.
Yelizaveta Bezrukova placed 22nd with 626.8 points, while Sofya Shulzhenko was 28th with 624.6 points. Recall that the top eight athletes in qualification earned spots in the final.
Wang Zhifei of China topped the qualification standings with 636.8 points. Ban Hyo-jin of South Korea was second with 634.9, and Sonam Uttam Maskar of India third with 634.1.
In the team event, Kazakhstan's score combined the results of Le, Bezrukova and Shulzhenko. The athletes totaled 1879.9 points to finish sixth.
China won team gold with 1904.2 points, India took silver (1898.0) and Japan bronze (1897.1).
Earlier on September 20, triathlete Arlan Zhanabay brought Kazakhstan its first medal of the 2026 Asian Games, winning bronze. Later, cyclist Rinata Sultanova won gold in the individual time trial.
The 20th Summer Asian Games in Japan officially opened the day before, on September 19. The multi-sport event, featuring athletes from 45 countries, will award 460 sets of medals: 217 in men's events, 204 in women's and 39 in mixed events. Competitions will be held in 68 disciplines across 41 sports. Kazakhstan's team at the 2026 Asian Games will include 559 athletes.
