Kazakhstan continues to implement its amnesty law. First Deputy Chairman of the Penal System Committee of the Ministry of Internal Affairs Niyaz Ryspaev reported on the initial results of this work, according to infohub.kz.
According to Ryspaev, about 10,000 submissions have been sent to courts so far. Courts have reviewed over 1,000 cases, resulting in the release of 620 people from penal facilities.
The committee representative noted that administrative supervision will be established over these individuals after their release.
The amnesty also affected convicts registered with the probation service. An additional 724 citizens registered with the probation service have been released from further serving their sentences.
Furthermore, more than 730 convicts had their sentences reduced. Work on reviewing submissions in courts is ongoing.
