The XX Summer Asian Games in Japan officially opened on September 19 and concluded today, October 4. On Sunday morning, the final event of the 2026 Asian Games took place—the show jumping competition in equestrian sport, where riders competed in two categories based on obstacle height, infohub.kz reports.

Kazakhstan's Oleg Sokolenko on the horse Cinderella placed 14th in Category A. Nurila Turysbekova on Kubel-van-Abelendref, along with five other riders, did not reach the finish line.

It is worth noting that the equestrian events were held not in Nagoya, the host city of the 2026 Games, but in Tokyo, at the JRA Equestrian Park Olympic complex.

The Ministry of Tourism and Sports summed up the results of the 2026 Asian Games the day before. Kazakhstan's national team won 84 medals—12 gold, 24 silver, and 48 bronze—and finished eighth in the overall standings among 46 participating countries.

At six Asian Games, from Hiroshima 1994 to Incheon 2014, Kazakhstan's team consistently placed in the top 5. The result at the previous Games in Hangzhou 2022 was the worst in history. The 12 gold medals at the current competition represent the team's second-worst result at the Asian Games.

Team ball sports are considered the most prestigious in multi-sport events (Olympics and Asian Games). In these sports, Kazakhstan has one silver medal. The water polo team became vice-champions of the Games. The handball and women's rugby teams finished just off the podium.

In competitions involving athletes from 45 countries, 460 sets of medals were awarded: 217 for men, 204 for women, and 39 in mixed events.

Kazakhstan's team at the 2026 Asian Games consisted of 558 athletes competing in 35 sports.

The next Asian Games will be held in 2030 in Doha, the capital of Qatar.
