Kazakhstan's national team slipped three places in the overall medal standings after another day of competition at the 2026 Summer Asian Games in Japan, infohub.kz reports.
The national team has now gone two days in a row without a gold medal, dropping from fifth to eighth place overall. Thailand, Bahrain and Iran have all moved ahead of Kazakhstan.
On Tuesday, Kristina Ovchinnikova won silver in the high jump. Bronze medals for Kazakhstan came from kurash wrestler Arailym Shegenova (over 87 kg) and the trap shooting team of Alisher Aisalbayev, Daniil Pochivalov and Mark Pochivalov.
Aibek Oralbay has guaranteed Kazakhstan at least one boxing medal after reaching the final in the over 90 kg weight class. The remaining semifinal bouts involving Kazakh athletes are scheduled for September 30.
On Wednesday, the national team will also compete for bronze in the team pursuit on the velodrome track. Ilya Karabutov, Maksim Khoroshavin, Ramis Dinmukhametov and Dmitry Noskov represent the country in the event.
