The men's national basketball team of Kazakhstan wrapped up the 2029 Asia Cup qualifying tournament with a convincing victory, securing a spot in the next stage of the competition, reports infohub.kz.
The final Group B matches took place in Almaty. In the decisive game, the team coached by Alexander Lysyak faced Sri Lanka and cruised to an 87:58 victory. The hosts dominated the opening quarters, building a comfortable lead, but were outscored in the final two periods.
The top scorer of the match was Sri Lanka's center Kande Dasun Nilanta Mendis with 19 points. For Kazakhstan, guard Shaim Kuanov led the way with 15 points.
In the parallel game, Kyrgyzstan routed the Maldives 95:37. After the tournament, Palestine topped the group with eight points, followed by Kazakhstan with seven, and Sri Lanka with six. These three teams advanced to the second qualifying round.
Kyrgyzstan (five points) and the Maldives (four) ended their qualifying campaign.
