Cargo waiting times at Kazakhstan's border have been reduced tenfold thanks to digitalization. At the Nur Zholy–Khorgos crossing, queue times fell from 30 to three days, Transport Minister Nurlan Sauranbayev said at a government meeting, according to infohub.kz.

According to the minister, these changes resulted from the implementation of digital solutions under the Digital Qazaqstan strategy. One of the key projects is the Smart Cargo platform, which consolidates data from 58 sources and enables tracking of international cargo along the entire route.

The Nur Zholy checkpoint has also introduced a digital transport passport with a single QR code. To date, more than 11,000 such passports have been issued.

According to the ministry, the new solutions have increased cargo clearance speed by 30%. The next step will be integrating the system with similar platforms in Azerbaijan and Russia.

In parallel, Kazakhstan is developing the e-Kólik system — a unified digital environment for the transport sector. A Smart Data Transport database has been created for it, with nine data sources already connected. The number is planned to increase to 40. The ministry expects artificial intelligence to provide full monitoring of the transport network.

Digitalization also affects citizen and business requests. Their processing is already carried out using artificial intelligence, and the review period has been reduced from 15 to three working days. In the future, this figure is to be cut to one day.

Earlier, Kursiv Auto reported that road transport between Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan would be switched to electronic format.
