Kazakhstan has stepped up sanitary and quarantine controls at its border with Russia, screening passengers on all modes of transport for signs of especially dangerous infections. No cases or individuals with suspicious symptoms have been detected so far, the website infohub.kz reports.

The checks are being carried out at border crossing points and cover all types of transport, the Committee for Sanitary and Epidemiological Control said.

"The situation in Kazakhstan is under constant monitoring, and preventive measures have been taken. Sanitary and quarantine control is being carried out at border crossing points. No individuals with elevated temperatures, signs of illness, or suspected especially dangerous infections have been identified on any mode of transport," the committee told Kursiv.

The risk of the infection being imported into Kazakhstan is preliminarily assessed as low. If necessary, measures will be adjusted once new official information becomes available.

Earlier, Kursiv reported on the death of a 28-year-old female employee at a plague control institute in Irkutsk Oblast. It was initially reported that she had broken a test tube beforehand. A total of 197 people who had contact with the patient are under medical observation.

Amid the incident, fears emerged of a possible plague outbreak. Later, Rospotrebnadzor said no plague cases had been detected. Pneumonia was named as the preliminary cause of the employee's death.
