More than 19,000 breast cancer cases have been detected in Kazakhstan through routine screenings, with nearly 90% of tumors found via mammography at early stages when the chances of full recovery are highest, reports infohub.kz.
"Since the screening program began, 19,018 breast cancer cases have been identified, of which 17,186 were at stages I and II. The number of cases detected at stages III–IV through screening has dropped from 66 in 2011 to 16 in 2025," the Ministry of Health of Kazakhstan said, citing program data.
In 2025, more than 8,400 Kazakh women underwent examinations. Various breast pathologies were found in over 3,300 women, including 144 cases of breast cancer. A total of 5,743 new cases were registered last year.
The ministry noted that breast cancer ranks first among oncological diseases in Kazakh women. Women aged 40 to 76 inclusive can receive free mammography screening once every two years at their polyclinic.
On October 31, an open day will be held at the Kazakh Research Institute of Oncology and Radiology, where women can receive free consultations with an oncologist-mammologist.
"Early detection of the disease increases the effectiveness of treatment and helps preserve women's health and quality of life," the Ministry of Health said.
