In Kazakhstan, mortality from oncological diseases has decreased by 26.6% over the past three years, and the five-year survival rate of patients has reached 65%, reports infohub.kz.
The Ministry of Health of the Republic notes improvement in several key indicators in the fight against cancer. In addition to reduced mortality and increased survival, there is positive dynamics in early diagnosis: the share of cases detected at early stages has increased to 36.8%, and the number of advanced forms of the disease has decreased by 7.5%.
"Over the past three years, the share of cancer cases detected at early stages has grown by 6.1% to 36.8%, and the number of advanced cancer cases has been reduced by 7.5%," the ministry said in a statement.
Currently, 246,000 patients are under dynamic observation. Every year, about 43,000 new cases of oncological diseases are detected in the country.
The ministry believes that the achieved results allow Kazakhstan to strengthen its position among Central Asian countries and gradually approach the level of OECD states, where the basis of the fight against cancer remains early diagnosis and modern treatment methods.
"We are consistently building a system in which every patient can receive quality oncological care regardless of their place of residence. These are not one-time solutions, but long-term changes that are already yielding real results," the Minister of Health emphasized.
The Ministry of Health added that the modernization of the oncological service is carried out within the framework of the Comprehensive Plan for Combating Oncological Diseases, which is implemented in pursuance of the instructions of the head of state.
