Starting in December, Kazakhstan will introduce new requirements for importing cars for personal use: vehicles must be no older than five years and meet an environmental class of at least Euro-5. The new rules were approved by the Ministry of Transport of the Republic of Kazakhstan, infohub.kz reports.

The tightening applies not only to passenger cars but also to motorcycles, mopeds, trucks and trailers. Separate import rules remain in place for companies and individual entrepreneurs.

Auto experts believe the changes will not cause a sharp spike in prices, since most cars are already imported relatively new. At the same time, demand for vehicles already on the Kazakh market may rise.

“I think this is primarily about stimulating sales of new cars produced in Kazakhstan. About 70% of new cars sold in the country are already produced in Kazakhstan. And, of course, these products need to be sold,” expert Alexei Alexeyev commented.

It was previously reported that new car import rules took effect in Kazakhstan on September 26, 2024: an individual may obtain an SBKTS certificate no more than once a year. Imports of cars older than five years from EAEU countries that do not meet the Euro-4 standard, as well as vehicles converted from right-hand to left-hand drive, were also banned.
