A video showing a resident of a psychoneurological care facility drinking water from a toilet has sparked a scandal in western Kazakhstan, infohub.kz reports.
The incident occurred at one of the medical and social institutions for people with psychoneurological conditions. In the circulated footage, a person leans over a toilet, scoops water from it and drinks. A male voice off-camera claims the center has water problems and that residents, suffering from thirst, allegedly go so far as to drink their own urine. According to him, a staff member had reported that residents lacked free access to drinking water.
The facility's administration categorically denied the claims. According to its director, one employee deliberately persuaded a patient to drink water from the toilet, the motive being an internal workplace conflict. The facility now faces an inspection, and its director has filed a complaint against the employee who shot the video.
"This information is untrue. There are no problems with access to drinking water at the facility. There is a centralized water supply and additional filters have been installed. As guardian, I have filed an application with the authorized bodies. They will look into the employee who recorded the video, in which actions violating the rights of my service recipient were permitted," said Nurzhan Atkeshov, director of the Darya Center for the Provision of Special Social Services.
