Kazakhstan's Ministry of Defense has released the names of the servicemen who died tragically during exercises in the Caspian Sea. The list contains 12 names in total — a senior lieutenant and 11 sailors, infohub.kz reports.

What happened in the Caspian. On September 24, during naval exercises on the Caspian coast, the weather sharply deteriorated and the wind intensified. The servicemen were swept out to sea. According to updated data from the Mangystau Region akimat, 17 people ended up in the water: 12 died, three were rescued, and the search for two others continues.
A government commission led by Deputy Prime Minister Kanat Bozumbayev is working at the scene. He ordered round-the-clock searches and assistance to the families of the victims. Investigators are establishing the circumstances of the tragedy: a criminal case has been opened into the deaths of the servicemen.
President Qasym-Jomart Toqaev declared September 25 a day of national mourning.
