The investigation into the deaths of servicemen during exercises in the Mangystau Region continues, and the probe has already moved to specific individuals: officials suspected of negligent performance of duty have been identified. This was reported by infohub.kz.
According to the Prosecutor General's Office of Kazakhstan in its official Telegram channel, the scene was examined, more than 30 military personnel were questioned, and documentation and video materials were seized. In addition, 12 forensic examinations have been ordered.
"Officials have been identified who are suspected of negligent performance of duty, as well as of failing to ensure control and take necessary measures to ensure the safety of personnel given the weather conditions, and of improperly organizing rescue operations, which led to the deaths," the Prosecutor General's Office said.
The office emphasized that the investigation will give a full legal assessment and take procedural measures against all suspects.
Recall that on September 24, during a combat training task, due to a sudden and sharp deterioration in weather conditions and gusty winds, 17 servicemen were swept into the Caspian Sea. Three were rescued, 12 died, and the search for two continues. A criminal case has been opened under two articles of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
Today Kazakhstan is observing a Day of National Mourning.
