In January–May 2026, Kazakhstan produced 25,700 tonnes of cheese and cottage cheese, a 28% increase compared to the same period last year, representing a rise of 5,600 tonnes, reports infohub.kz.
In January–May 2026, Kazakh producers exported about 900 tonnes of cheese and cottage cheese. Domestic products continue to see steady demand in Russia, Kyrgyzstan, and Armenia. Moreover, export geography is expanding positively, with robust growth in shipments to Uzbekistan and Mongolia, and successful entry into new markets in Azerbaijan and South Korea.
Amid rising domestic production, imports of cheese and cottage cheese fell 9.2% compared to the same period in 2025. Domestic demand continues to grow steadily: in the first five months of 2026, sales of cheese and cottage cheese reached 41,400 tonnes, an 11.2% increase year-on-year.
As of June 2026, the average retail price of cottage cheese across Kazakhstan was 2,457 tenge per kilogram. The lowest average price was recorded in Petropavlovsk at 1,661 tenge per kg, while the highest was in Zhezkazgan at 3,060 tenge per kg.
