Matches of the third round of the 46th World Chess Olympiad were held in Samarkand, Uzbekistan. Kazakhstan's women's team extended its winning streak by defeating Slovenia, infohub.kz reports.
The Slovenian opponents rank 25th among the participants, but three Kazakh chess players managed to win their games. Alua Nurman beat Zala Urh, Elnaz Kaliakhmet proved stronger than Nadia Shpanko, and Zarina Nurgaliyeva defeated Anja Beber.
On the top board, Bibisara Assaubayeva drew with Laura Unuk. For the Kazakh chess player, this is already her second consecutive draw at the tournament.
Thus, Kazakhstan's women's team has claimed its third victory in a row. A total of 189 teams are competing in the women's tournament.
Kazakhstan's men's team lost to France 0.5:3.5 in the third round. Denis Makhnev brought the national team its only half-point, drawing with 2021 world blitz champion Maxime Vachier-Lagrave.
Sauat Nurgaliyev, Aldiyar Ansat and Zhandos Agmanov lost their games.
Earlier, the Kazakh chess players defeated the teams of Haiti and Nigeria. A total of 205 teams are taking part in the men's tournament of the Olympiad.
