Kazakhstan has proposed increasing Chinese purchases of Kazakh grain and oilseeds, including for building strategic reserves, reports infohub.kz.
According to the Ministry of Agriculture, the issue was discussed during a meeting between Vice Minister Nazgul Khatipova and Liu Huansin, head of China's State Administration of Grain and Material Reserves. The meeting took place as part of Kazakhstan's participation in the 8th China Grain Trade Conference.
By the end of 2025, agricultural trade between the two countries grew by 36.8%, reaching $1.97 billion.
"China is one of Kazakhstan's key strategic partners in the agricultural sector. Geographic proximity, complementary economies, and steadily growing food demand create a solid foundation for further expanding mutually beneficial cooperation," Khatipova emphasized.
The Kazakh side also proposed expanding the list of mutual supplies. During the talks, prospects for attracting Chinese investment in building storage and processing facilities for agricultural products, as well as developing agrologistics, were discussed.
Following the meeting, the parties agreed to continue joint work on proposals and intensify interaction between relevant government agencies and business circles of the two countries.
Separately, Khatipova met with Mao Weiming, governor of China's Hunan province, to discuss cooperation in food security. The Chinese side proposed expanding scientific and technical cooperation and experience exchange between Kazakhstan and Hunan province.
Earlier, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev outlined key areas of cooperation between Kazakhstan and China.
