In the East Kazakhstan region, a criminal case involving extortion among convicts has been concluded with a court verdict, as reported by infohub.kz.
According to the official website of the prosecutor's office, during supervisory activities, the General Prosecutor's Office uncovered an instance of extortion of money at facility No. 22 of the Penal System Committee of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan. The criminal case was taken into proceedings by special prosecutors.
The pre-trial investigation established that between July and November 2025, two convicts, threatening physical violence, extorted money from a newly arrived inmate in exchange for so-called "protection," as stated by the East Kazakhstan regional prosecutor's office.
Special prosecutors gathered a sufficient body of evidence confirming the involvement of the guilty parties in the crime, and the case was sent to court.
On July 29, 2026, the Glubokovsky District Court found the defendants guilty of a criminal offense under Part 3 of Article 194 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan and sentenced them to imprisonment, adding to their existing sentences.
The verdict has not yet entered into legal force.
