Claims that Kazakhstan is introducing a tax on interest from individual bank deposits are false — the government is not considering the matter, reports infohub.kz.

According to NUR.KZ, citing the Central Communications Service's Counter-Disinformation Center, reports are circulating in the country about an alleged planned introduction of such a tax. The center stressed that this information has no basis in reality.

It also cited the official response of the Ministry of National Economy of the Republic of Kazakhstan, which states that the government is not considering introducing a tax on interest on individual deposits.

"Under Article 430 of the Tax Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan, interest paid to individuals on their bank deposits is not subject to individual income tax," the ministry's comment says.

Thus, the claims being spread have no legal basis. The Counter-Disinformation Center urged responsible handling of information, especially on sensitive socioeconomic issues that could cause unwarranted alarm and public tension.

Note that in August, reports of a 5% tax on bank deposit interest were already denied.
