Between June and August 2026, 19 individuals were convicted and sentenced to various prison terms for terrorism and extremism crimes in Kazakhstan, according to cases investigated by the National Security Committee, as reported by infohub.kz.
The committee's official Telegram channel detailed that among those convicted is a native of Almaty who had been wanted since 2017 for involvement with international terrorist organizations. He was located in Turkey, from where he was deported to Kazakhstan in 2025 and taken into custody. A court sentenced him to 8 years in prison.
Another convict, a resident of Shymkent, was sentenced to 9 years for promoting terrorist ideology and inciting violent acts on social media.
During the same period, 28 individuals were detained in Astana, Almaty, Shymkent, and the Akmola, Aktobe, Almaty, Zhambyl, Mangystau, and Turkistan regions during operational search activities. They are suspected of promoting terrorism, inciting religious discord, distributing banned materials online and among their circles, and participating in the activities of an extremist organization.
Pre-trial investigations are currently underway under relevant articles of the Criminal Code. Further information is not subject to disclosure in accordance with Part 1 of Article 201 of the Criminal Procedure Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
