A resident of Kazakhstan's Akmola Region has been sentenced to community service for animal cruelty that resulted in the death of a dog, infohub.kz reports.

According to the official Telegram channel of Akmola Region courts, the Zhaksy District Court heard a criminal case against a defendant charged under Part 2 of Article 316 of the Criminal Code — animal cruelty resulting in death.

According to case materials, a resident of Zhaksy District learned that his partner had been bitten on the leg by a dog in the yard of an acquaintance's home. Angered, the man took an axe and went to the acquaintance's house, where he called the dog over and struck it twice on the head.

According to a veterinary specialist's conclusion, the dog died from the injuries sustained.

In court, the man pleaded guilty and expressed remorse. His guilt was also confirmed by testimony from the dog's owner, witnesses, an expert report, inspection of the scene, video footage, and other case materials.

In sentencing, the court considered as mitigating circumstances his guilty plea and remorse, as well as his financial situation — he is unemployed.

No civil claim was filed by the injured party. The court sentenced him to 100 hours of community service.

The sentence has entered into legal force.
