Kazakh police are expanding the use of digital technologies to monitor drivers. This includes drones, mobile systems on patrol cars, average speed control, and laser systems, reports infohub.kz.
One of the police tools is drones. With their help, inspectors monitor traffic and record violations from the air.
As noted by Baglanbek Aitpayev, Deputy Chairman of the Administrative Police Committee of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the system allows not only to punish violators but also to respond faster to dangerous situations.
"Speed lovers and gross violators can no longer escape responsibility, as violations are recorded from the air," Aitpayev said.
Mobile systems on patrol cars allow recording violations directly in traffic. Police say they help detect phone use while driving, failure to yield to pedestrians, speeding, and traffic maneuvering violations.
Drivers who like to speed on suburban highways are reminded of average speed control. The system currently operates on 12 major republican routes, so braking before a camera will not help avoid detection.
To prevent accidents, police also use laser systems, especially at night and in adverse weather. They are also used in situations where a driver may lose concentration or start falling asleep at the wheel.
On some roads, authorities additionally narrow the roadway to force drivers to slow down and pay more attention to the road. The Ministry of Internal Affairs believes that a combination of these measures should help reduce accidents and make road traffic safer.
