Over the past three years, the volume of medicines and medical devices produced in Kazakhstan has grown by 40%, reports infohub.kz.
According to the Ministry of Health, the domestic pharmaceutical market has expanded from 139.8 billion tenge in 2023 to 191.1 billion tenge by the end of 2025. The share of Kazakh-made drugs reached 39.8%.
In the first half of 2026, domestic enterprises produced medicines and medical devices worth 126.6 billion tenge. This is 29% more than in the same period last year and 59% higher than in the first half of 2023.
The ministry also noted that eight major investment agreements have been signed to set up drug production within the country.
Furthermore, pharmaceutical exports are on the rise. In the first four months of 2026, exports totaled $38.5 million, up 60% year-on-year.
Investment in the sector is also growing. By the end of 2025, investments in the pharmaceutical industry reached $142.8 million, a 56% increase from 2024.
Earlier, Kursiv reported on criticism of the domestic pharmaceutical industry by Senator Ainur Argynbekova in the Mazhilis. She stated that over the past 10 years, only two original drugs have been developed in Kazakhstan.
