A resident of Almaty has been sentenced to 16 years in prison for organizing a drug smuggling channel from Thailand, according to the website infohub.kz.
A jury trial found him guilty of orchestrating the smuggling of hashish oil from Thailand via international postal shipments, prosecutors said.
“The convict arranged the illegal import of cannabis oil through international mail. The drugs were concealed in packages and addressed to unsuspecting relatives and acquaintances. Law enforcement foiled several smuggling attempts and seized more than 5.7 kilograms of cannabis extract. In addition, they found drugs intended for sale and an illegally stored ammunition round at his home,” the prosecutor’s office reported.
Earlier, a similar 16-year sentence was handed down to a resident of Astana for smuggling drugs through postal deliveries.
