A resident of Kazakhstan's Abai Region celebrated the birth of his daughter and lost his freedom for 2 years and 2 months after repeatedly getting behind the wheel while intoxicated, the website infohub.kz reports.

According to the regional police department's official Telegram channel, a 53-year-old resident of Zharma District repeatedly drove while under the influence of alcohol and has now been jailed again. Neither administrative penalties, nor community service, nor prison had been enough to stop him.

Citing the Abai Region Police Department, the report says that at around 12:00 on September 22, 2026, in the village of Kalbatau in Zharma District, the 53-year-old man — who had been banned for life from driving — again got behind the wheel of a VAZ-21099 while intoxicated. Police officers stopped him on Boranbay Bi Street. A medical examination confirmed moderate alcohol intoxication.

In court, the man fully admitted his guilt and expressed remorse. He even explained that this time he had drunk alcohol to celebrate the birth of his daughter.

Personal circumstances, however, cannot justify breaking the law — especially since driving while intoxicated was not a first offense for him but a recurring violation.

2015: He was held administratively liable for driving while intoxicated.

2018: He broke the law again. This time, for driving without a license and while intoxicated, he was sentenced to 120 days of community service and stripped of his driving rights for three years.

2020: He drew no lessons from his previous punishment. For again driving while intoxicated, he was sentenced to eight months in prison.

2022: Another similar violation. The court banned him from driving for life and sentenced him to two years in prison.

2026: Despite the passing years, nothing had changed. The man, permanently barred from driving, once again got behind the wheel while intoxicated.

In the end, the court sentenced him to 2 years and 2 months in prison.
