Kazakhstan plans to revise the maximum tariffs for power-generating organizations following a large number of applications. The move is expected to help modernize infrastructure, reports infohub.kz.
A draft order by the Minister of Energy of the Republic of Kazakhstan "On approval of maximum tariffs for electric energy" has been published on the "Open NLA" portal. According to the document, the basis for its development was requests from 60 power-generating organizations to adjust the maximum tariff for electricity production.
The explanatory note states: "In order to ensure stable energy supply and systematic modernization of generating capacities in the country, the maximum tariffs for 60 power-generating organizations (PGOs) have been reviewed. The decision is aimed at creating the necessary financial conditions for timely repair campaigns, as well as the implementation of long-term programs for the renewal and maintenance of equipment reliability."
However, the exact size of the changes and the list of regions affected are not specified in the draft. Public discussion of the document will last until September 6, 2026. If the order is adopted, new tariffs for power-generating organizations may come into force as early as September 10 of this year.
