Foreign nationals arriving in Kazakhstan without a visa will have to obtain an electronic entry permit. FlyArystan airline explained how to get the document and who will not need it, infohub.kz reports.
The republic is introducing a new entry system for foreigners visiting the country visa-free. To cross the border, they will need an electronic permit issued through the QazETA mobile app. FlyArystan reminded passengers of the changes.
The new rules take effect on October 24, 2026, but the system will be rolled out gradually.
“The electronic permit is issued free of charge and is valid for 180 calendar days. To obtain it, you need to download the QazETA app, complete registration and identification, and submit an application no later than 72 hours before the planned date of entry. At the border, travelers must present the same passport used to obtain the permit.
From November 1, 2026, the permit will begin to be checked at Aktau International Airport; from January 1, 2027, at Astana and Almaty airports; and from March 1, 2027, at other checkpoints. At this stage, a foreigner without a permit will not be denied entry but will be told that one must be obtained. From July 1, 2027, the permit will become mandatory: without it, entry to Kazakhstan will be denied,” the statement said.
The permit will not be required for children under 16, people aged 65 and over, holders of valid Kazakh visas, foreigners with temporary residence permits or permanent residence permits, and transit passengers who do not leave the airport transit zone. In total, 29 categories of exempt persons are provided for, and supporting documents are required.
FlyArystan recommends that passengers familiarize themselves with Kazakhstan's entry requirements in advance and check whether they need an electronic permit before traveling, so as not to leave the application until the last moment.
