As thousands of events mark Family Day across the country, a sweeping systemic overhaul is unfolding behind the festive facade. Kazakhstan is moving from formal congratulations to tough protection of the home — from a full criminal ban on domestic violence to efforts to fundamentally change how employers treat staff with children, reports infohub.kz.

The most unexpected and long-awaited strand of the reform is its work with the business sector. The Ministry of Culture and Information, together with the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), has launched a special project called "Family-Friendly Workplace."

Specialists have already begun training sessions for heads of government agencies and private companies. The new standard centers on introducing a family-oriented corporate culture in which employers accommodate working parents by creating flexible conditions for balancing careers and household duties.

In parallel, a powerful social and legal protection infrastructure is being rolled out nationwide. The key turning point was the law on the safety of women and children, which finally criminalized domestic violence.

Some 160 Family Support Centers are already operating across the republic. The immediate plans call for raising that number to 208, with offices opening in every district and city. Since the start of 2026, more than 50,000 citizens have turned to these centers. Nearly 43,000 families have received counseling assistance, and about 6,000 are under constant supervision by specialists.

To reduce the divorce rate, Kazakhstan has adopted a special Plan for Preserving the Institution of the Family for 2025–2027. Its goal is to teach people conscious parenting and conflict-free living before a marriage reaches the brink of divorce.

As part of that plan, the Ministry of Culture and Information is expanding the "Parents' Academy" project. In 2026 alone, training programs on a culture of responsible parenting will reach more than 40,000 people — including parents, teachers and social workers across the country.
