The men's national football teams of the Faroe Islands and Kazakhstan played out a 1-1 draw in their opening match of the 2026/27 UEFA Nations League — the Group C3 fixture in League C ended level, reports infohub.kz.
The match was played at Tórsvøllur stadium in Tórshavn. Before kick-off, a minute of silence was held in memory of the victims of the Caspian tragedy.
The hosts took the lead in the 14th minute when forward Óki Samuelsen converted a low cross from defender Andrias Edmundsson with a first-time finish.
The visitors equalised in the 26th minute — defender Temirlan Yerlanov headed home a corner delivered by midfielder and team captain Bauyrzhan Islamkhan.
The draw gave both teams one point apiece. Besides the Faroe Islands and Kazakhstan, Group C3 also features Slovakia and Moldova.
The match was the first for Dutch specialist John van 't Schip as head coach of Kazakhstan — he replaced Talgat Baisufinov in the role.
In the second round of the Nations League, Kazakhstan will face Slovakia. The game in Košice will kick off on 29 September at 23:45 Astana time.
