Around 522,000 Kazakh citizens could lose state benefits due to new need-assessment criteria set to take effect on January 1, 2027. Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Economy Serik Zhumangarin announced this, according to infohub.kz.

According to him, the country has about 77,000 Kazakhstanis with a high level of well-being (category "A"), while the remaining 445,000 fall into the affluent category ("B"). The Ministry of Labor and Social Protection of the Population is still working on an exact count of these categories of citizens.

"There must be no mistakes. The minister said that around 30 system components will be involved. Monitoring will be carried out daily," Zhumangarin noted.

He concluded that after the new rules are approved, representatives of the Ministry of Labor will visit all 20 regions of Kazakhstan to explain the reform.

Recall that starting January 1, 2027, Kazakhstan will change the procedure for paying 10 benefits. The government has approved new need-assessment criteria under which affluent families will no longer be able to receive financial support from the state. The list includes key social payments, among them a one-time payment for the birth of a child, a monthly child care allowance, and payments to large families.

The level of a family's social well-being in Kazakhstan is assessed in points. Income, housing, cars, employment, loans, social risks, and other indicators are taken into account.

Later it became known that the large-scale reform of state benefits in Kazakhstan will save the national budget 2.5 trillion tenge over three years. According to Kazakh Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov, Kazakhstanis should perceive state assistance not as a permanent source of income but as a push to support themselves and exit the category of those in need.

Earlier, Kursiv wrote that starting January 1, 2027, second-tier banks, with the consent of the benefit recipient and their family members, will submit data on their bank accounts and deposits.
