A resident of the East Kazakhstan Region has appealed directly to the Minister of Health after a routine nose operation led to a severe diagnosis — empty nose syndrome. He is demanding that those responsible be held accountable and that the full cost of treatment be covered, the website infohub.kz reports.

"On July 29, 2025, I underwent a planned operation at the East Kazakhstan Regional Hospital for a deviated nasal septum. However, during the surgery the surgeon additionally performed an intervention on the inferior nasal turbinates," the Kazakh man wrote on Threads.

According to him, his health deteriorated seriously after the intervention. He was subsequently diagnosed with empty nose syndrome (Empty Nose Syndrome). A complex reconstruction of the inferior nasal turbinates is being considered for his recovery, and he has been advised to consult specialists abroad.

The patient stresses that a state inspection sided with him. "After my appeals, a state unscheduled inspection was carried out with the involvement of an independent ENT expert. Act No. 83 of July 21, 2026, officially records violations, including the absence of objective justification for the intervention on the inferior nasal turbinates and of the necessary diagnostic data. This is no longer just my word as a patient — the violations have been established by a state inspection. But today the consequences of what happened have effectively been left to me alone," he said.

The Kazakh man asks: why should a patient harmed by a surgeon's actions have to seek treatment and money for recovery on his own? And who should bear responsibility for the identified violations and their consequences?

In his appeal to Health Minister Akmaral Alnazarova, he set out specific demands. "I am asking for a concrete result: to determine who will treat me and where, how the recovery will be funded, and what responsibility will be borne by those whose actions or inaction are recognized as the cause of the harm done to me," he wrote. The Kazakh man also noted that appeals through E-ötinish produced no result.

The health department of the East Kazakhstan Region confirmed to Kursiv that the case did indeed occur. It stressed that the situation of Baisalbayev B.M. was not left without attention and that work is currently under way to find an acceptable solution to the matter.

The department also said that, following the patient's complaint, it conducted an inspection and issued an order, which the hospital has already complied with. However, it noted that it cannot disclose details of the treatment and the measures taken in the media and social networks, as this falls under medical confidentiality.

"For an objective review of the situation and to find a possible solution, the hospital doctor who performed the operation has concluded a pre-mediation agreement. This procedure allows the parties to discuss the situation in a constructive dialogue and consider possible ways of resolving it, taking into account the position of each side," the statement says.

Earlier, Kursiv reported that Health Minister Akmaral Alnazarova had taken personal control of the situation involving a 39-year-old Astana woman. The mother of many children said that doctors at a capital clinic had ignored poor results from her cancer screenings.
