With autumn setting in, children have returned to schools and kindergartens, while adults are spending more time indoors and in public places. During this period, the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Kazakhstan is reminding citizens to follow simple preventive measures that help reduce the risk of infection and the spread of seasonal respiratory illnesses, according to infohub.kz.

Vaccination is one of the main flu prevention measures cited by the ministry. The shot is recommended before the active seasonal rise in cases begins. September and October are considered the optimal period, as the body needs time to build an immune response.

During cold and flu season, it is important to wash hands more often, especially after visiting public places, regularly ventilate rooms and clean frequently used surfaces and objects.

Maintaining a sleep and rest routine is also recommended. Adults should ideally sleep 7-8 hours a day. Moderate physical activity and a daily walk in the fresh air of about 30 minutes are also beneficial.

The diet should be varied and include vegetables, fruits, herbs, meat, fish, eggs and legumes. Excess sugar and fatty and fried foods should be limited.

The ministry also draws citizens' attention to the inadmissibility of self-administering medications and dietary supplements (BADS) to prevent flu and colds.

"Dietary supplements are not medicines and do not replace vaccination, proper nutrition or medical care. Before using any medications, vitamins or other supplements, it is recommended to consult a medical specialist. If symptoms of a cold appear, it is recommended to limit contact with others where possible and to observe hand hygiene and respiratory etiquette. In case of high fever, worsening condition or pronounced symptoms, it is necessary to seek medical help," the ministry added.

The Ministry of Health previously reported on the epidemiological situation in Kazakhstan as of autumn 2026.
