Kazakhstan is bracing for extreme heat in the south and thunderstorms with heavy rain in the north this weekend. According to Kazhydromet, the unstable weather is due to a northwestern cyclone, as reported by infohub.kz.

In the west, north, and central parts of the country, rain and thunderstorms are expected. Some areas may see heavy downpours, hail, and gusty winds, while dust storms are forecast for the south. Southern, southeastern, and parts of central regions will remain sunny and dry.

After the rain, temperatures in the north and northwest will drop to a daytime range of +21…+29°C. Elsewhere, the heat will persist. The east and center will reach +39°C, the south of central and eastern regions up to +42°C, the southwest up to +44°C, and the south and southeast up to +45…+48°C.

In Astana, partly cloudy skies and no rain are expected: overnight lows of +17…+19°C and daytime highs of +32…+34°C. In Almaty, dry weather: overnight +23…+25°C, daytime +40…+42°C. In Shymkent, dry as well: overnight +23…+25°C, daytime +45…+47°C.
