The average air temperature during the summer season of 2026 exceeded the climate norm by 2.15 degrees, making it the hottest summer in Kazakhstan's entire observational history, according to the website infohub.kz.
According to NUR.KZ, citing the state-run Kazhydromet agency, positive air temperature anomalies were observed across most of the country. Precipitation, meanwhile, fell 7.12 mm below the climate norm.
The largest positive temperature anomalies were recorded in the east of Akmola and Karaganda regions, in Pavlodar region, and across most of East Kazakhstan region and Abai region.
"The maximum positive deviation from the climate norm was +4 degrees and was recorded at the Bes-Oba weather station in Karaganda region," the forecasters said.
In addition, according to Kazhydromet, the summer of 2026 was marked by an uneven distribution of precipitation across Kazakhstan.
It was previously reported that July's heat in Kazakhstan broke temperature records in several cities at once. In Shymkent, in particular, a record that had stood for 111 years was broken: for the first time in a century, the thermometer rose above 45 degrees. High temperatures were also recorded in Turkestan and Almaty.
Earlier, residents of Astana endured one of the hottest days of the past 34 years, and June 23, 2026, became the hottest day in 85 years, with the maximum air temperature reaching 36.8 degrees.
According to experts, such weather could become the norm in the future.
