Kazakhstan has proposed changes to the procedure for creating and amending an individual identification number (IIN) for foreign citizens and stateless persons. A corresponding draft order from the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan has been put out for public discussion, the website infohub.kz reports.

The document was prepared by the Interior Ministry and published on the Open NPAs portal. The new rules concern the screening of foreigners when an IIN is issued.

According to the document, the draft sets out a procedure for verifying information about foreign citizens and stateless persons to confirm that their stay (residence) in the Republic of Kazakhstan is lawful, based on data from the reference immigrant database.

"Implementation of the draft will make it possible to verify the lawfulness of the stay (residence) of foreign citizens and stateless persons in the Republic of Kazakhstan when the public service for creating and amending an IIN is provided, and will also improve the reliability of the data used in providing this public service," the document says.

Public discussion of the draft order will continue until October 28.
