Five imported cases of dengue fever have been registered in Kazakhstan since the start of 2026, according to the website infohub.kz.
The Ministry of Health has warned citizens about imported dengue cases. In response, the Committee for Sanitary and Epidemiological Control has issued recommendations for those traveling abroad.
How to protect yourself while traveling
"Since the beginning of this year, five imported cases of dengue fever have been recorded in Kazakhstan. When visiting tropical and subtropical countries, tourists are advised to follow simple precautions," the statement said.
These include: choosing hotels or accommodations with air conditioning and mosquito nets on windows and doors; wearing long-sleeved shirts and long pants, especially during excursions and outdoor walks; dressing children in closed clothing and covering strollers and carriers with mosquito nets; using insect repellent. If sunscreen is used, apply repellent after it.
Symptoms
The main symptoms include a high fever of 39–40°C with chills, severe muscle, bone, and joint pain, and sharp pain behind the eyes. Additionally, a widespread rash, reddening of the face and neck are common. Infected individuals may also experience nausea, frequent vomiting, loss of appetite, pronounced weakness, dizziness, sweating, and swollen lymph nodes.
"If you feel unwell after returning from a trip, seek medical attention immediately and inform the doctor about the country you visited," the Committee for Sanitary and Epidemiological Control said.
Earlier, Kursiv reported that the Butantan-DV dengue vaccine had completed clinical trials. It confirmed that a single dose could provide years of protection. Previously, multiple doses were required, depending on whether the person had been infected before.
