New-style identity cards being issued in Kazakhstan no longer list the locality in the "Place of birth" field — only the name of the country now appears there. The press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan confirmed the change and explained that no one needs to replace their existing documents, the website infohub.kz reports.

According to Kazinform news agency, Kazakh citizens noticed the updated identity cards: the "Place of birth" field now shows only the name of the country. An NUR.KZ correspondent sent a request to the press service of the Interior Ministry of Kazakhstan, which confirmed the change. The updated identity cards began being issued back in March 2025.

According to the ministry's press service, the place-of-birth field lists only the name of the country, without the locality. Information about the region — the province and the locality — is stored in the digital system.

"This does not mean that everyone needs to replace their old identity cards that are still valid; these changes are included when a new identity card is issued," the Interior Ministry said.

Earlier, Kazakh citizens were told that their individual identification numbers (IIN) cannot be changed. The Interior Ministry stressed that it is assigned only once.
