Kazakhstan's judo team has finished the individual competition at the 2026 World Championships in Baku with a single silver medal. On the final day of individual events, Kazakh athletes Kamila Berlikash and Akerke Ramazanova lost their opening bouts in the over-78 kg weight class, infohub.kz reports.
Berlikash fell to Belgium's Gabrielle Bouvier in her first match, while Ramazanova lost to Egypt's Safa Soliman.
Kazakhstan's individual campaign at the World Championships is now over. The team's only medal came from Sherzod Davlatov, who took silver in the under-60 kg category. He lost to Azerbaijan's Ahmad Yusifov in the final. Abylaikhan Zhubanazar reached the bronze-medal bout in the under-81 kg category but lost to Omar Rajabli and finished fifth.
The team's medal haul matched its result at last year's World Championships in Budapest. In 2025, Kazakhstan also won one silver, claimed by Abiba Abuzhakynova in the under-48 kg category.
Tomorrow, October 11, Baku will host the final part of the World Championships – the mixed team tournament. Eighteen teams have entered, including Kazakhstan. The Kazakh squad lists 11 judokas – five men and six women.
The World Judo Championships are being held in Baku, Azerbaijan, from October 4 to 11, with 622 athletes from 93 countries taking part. Kazakhstan is represented by 15 athletes.
