Kazakhstan's national team finished in the top ten twice at the Junior (U19) World Artistic Swimming Championships in Hungary, reports infohub.kz.
In the team technical routine, the Kazakh team took eighth place, while the duet of Dayana Dzhamanchalova and Makpal Kalmurza finished tenth in the women's duet technical routine.
In the team event, Salima Akylbek, Sofia Ishchenko, Polina Merzlyakova, Aiganym Saim, Anastasia Voronkova, Takhmina Zairova, Dzhamanchalova, and Kalmurza represented the country. The synchronized swimmers scored 250.1 points and placed eighth in the final standings.
Gold in this discipline was won by the Russian team with 290.1 points. China took second place with 283.0 points, and Spain rounded out the top three with 273.0 points.
In the women's duet technical routine, Dzhamanchalova and Kalmurza received 265.1 points from the judges and finished tenth out of 27 duets.
The victory was claimed by Russians Kristina Chekhanova and Anastasia Sidorina with 300.2 points. Silver went to China's He Zhi'en and Zhou Kunyi with 289.7 points. The Spanish pair of Naya Alvarez and Daniela Suarez took bronze with 289.3 points.
After two days of competition, Kazakhstan's team has one medal. It was won by Viktor Druzin, who became the bronze medalist in the men's technical solo.
The Junior (U19) World Championships are being held in Budapest, Hungary, from August 12 to 16, with 300 athletes from 35 countries. A total of 11 sets of medals will be awarded. Kazakhstan is represented by 12 athletes.
