Kazakhstan's Ministry of Justice presented a Unified Digital Platform for Collective Rights Management (UCP) to representatives of domestic television and radio stations. The ministry demonstrated the system's main capabilities during a roundtable on copyright and related rights, reports infohub.kz.
During the meeting, participants examined in detail key provisions of Kazakh legislation and practical issues of their application. Following the roundtable, the parties exchanged views on how to implement existing norms and in what direction legal regulation in this area should be further developed.
One of the main organizations for copyright protection is WIPO — the World Intellectual Property Organization, a UN agency that promotes copyright compliance.
Within its mandate, WIPO encourages countries to join international conventions on intellectual property protection, particularly in the field of copyright. Kazakhstan has acceded to all such conventions, meaning that our law "On Copyright and Related Rights" complies with international principles and norms of copyright.
Earlier, Kazakhstan proposed creating a Unified Digital Platform to protect performers' rights. It was promised that every local musician would have a personal account where they could track online where and how many times their songs were played.
