Kazakhstan's women's canoe sprint team reached the podium at the 2026 Asian Games in Japan, with the country's athletes finishing third in the women's kayak four 500 meters, infohub.kz reports.
Olga Shmelyova, Tatyana Tokarnitskaya, Stella Sukhanova and Evelina Kostenko represented the country in the event. The Kazakh crew posted a time of 1 minute 37.005 seconds.
China won the race, with Uzbekistan finishing second.
For Shmelyova and Tokarnitskaya, the medal was their second at the 2026 Asian Games: a day earlier, they won silver in the women's kayak double.
Friday also saw the final of the men's kayak double 500 meters, where Bekarys Ramatulla and Dmitriy Kholmogorov competed. The Kazakh pair finished fourth, just missing the podium. A South Korean duo took gold, Japan won silver and Iran claimed bronze.
In the canoe double 500 meters, Maria Brovkova and Ulyana Kiselyova also finished fourth. China took gold, followed by duos from Uzbekistan and Vietnam.
