Kazakhstan's women's field hockey team defeated Uzbekistan 4:2 in a penalty shootout to claim 11th place — the second-to-last spot — at the 2026 Asian Games. Regulation time ended 1:1, according to infohub.kz.

Kazakhstan midfielder Viktoriya Lobanova, who scored a hat-trick against Bangladesh, opened the scoring in the 9th minute. In the third period, Uzbekistan forward Mariya Demina equalized, putting the second goal on the board.

Summer hockey has no overtime: when regulation time ends in a draw, a penalty shootout is held immediately. Shots, specifically — striking the ball during a penalty is not allowed.

The Kazakh players proved better in the shootout. The team coached by Serik Kalimbayev — a Merited Master of Sports of the USSR and 11-time Soviet champion with Almaty's Dynamo — finished 11th, second-to-last, at the 2026 Asian Games.

After the group stage, the top two teams from each pool advanced to the semifinals, while the rest competed for places 5 through 12.

The 2026 Asian Games champions will earn a berth at the 2028 Olympics, while the next four teams will play in an Olympic qualifying tournament.

Kazakhstan's women's hockey team has competed at four Asian Games. They finished sixth in Bangkok 1998 and Incheon 2014, and seventh in Guangzhou 2010. At the previous Asian Games in Hangzhou 2022, Kazakhstan placed eighth.

The XX Summer Asian Games officially opened on September 19 and will close on October 4. Athletes from 45 countries are competing for 460 sets of medals. Kazakhstan's team at the 2026 Asian Games includes 558 athletes in 35 sports.

On the first day of the Games, Kazakhstan won four gold medals. Cyclists Rinata Sultanova and Alexey Lutsenko became champions, along with karate athletes Zholaman Bigabyl and Sofya Berultseva. MMA fighter Yerkingali Burkutalin added a fifth gold to the team's tally, and his mixed martial arts teammate Kadyrbek Shynbayev took the sixth. On September 23, Lutsenko became a two-time 2026 Asian Games champion. The eighth gold medal was won on September 24 by rowers Vladislav Yakovlev and Ivan Chernukhin in the men's coxless pairs. The ninth gold went to Kazakhstan's epee fencing team.

After ten days of competition, Kazakhstan stood eighth in the unofficial medal standings.
