Kazakhstan has launched a pre-trial investigation into two female students from Kyrgyzstan who made scandalous remarks about the skull of Kenesary Khan. The news was reported by lawyer Meirman Shekeyev, who had earlier asked law enforcement to assess their statements, according to infohub.kz.
According to the lawyer, he received official confirmation that a criminal case has been registered.
"If you remember, two Kyrgyz citizens earlier posted videos in which they made offensive remarks about our ancestors, our country and our nation. In this regard, I did not stand aside. I previously informed you that I had asked the relevant authorities to assess the actions of these citizens. And today we report that a pre-trial investigation has been launched against the said citizens of the Kyrgyz Republic," Shekeyev said on Instagram.
The lawyer added that investigative bodies are establishing the circumstances of the incident. He did not specify under which article of the criminal code the case was registered.
"Thus, I inform you that a criminal case has been registered on this fact. In this regard, I want to address all citizens. As they say, there are no bad peoples, only bad people. At the same time, I want to remind you that insults to our national identity, national interests and the memory of our ancestors affect our honor and dignity. Whether it is Kenesary or our other ancestors, their descendants live today," he said.
Kursiv's editorial team requested an official comment from the Astana Police Department. As of publication, no response had been received from the police.
Earlier, two students from Kyrgyzstan claimed that in their country people allegedly "drink wine from the skull of Kenesary Khan." The video caused outrage among social media users in Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan. After the scandal, the young women publicly apologized.
Former adviser to the President of Kazakhstan, Olzhas Khudaibergenov, then suggested that the students not limit themselves to apologies but become blood donors for Kazakhstanis.
