Kazakhstan has earmarked 80 billion tenge for the purchase of 40,000 head of cattle and 20,000 head of small ruminants under its Comprehensive Livestock Development Plan for 2026–2030. Since the start of 2026, 7,234 head of cattle have already been imported from countries outside the former Soviet Union, infohub.kz reports.
The breeding herd upgrade is aimed at improving the genetic potential of livestock, boosting animal productivity, increasing milk and meat output, and raising the efficiency of agricultural enterprises.
In Turkestan Region, the Asia Milk commercial dairy farm has received another batch of 165 Holstein animals from Denmark. Including the previous delivery, the farm has imported 330 head from that country.
Earlier, another 165 Holstein animals from Denmark were delivered to the Mailyken Farm and the same number to the Dar Organik farm.
In North Kazakhstan Region, the dairy complex of Budennoye SK LLP has received 165 Holstein heifers from Germany. This is the fifth delivery to the farm, bringing its total herd to 825 head. The company plans to import 1,200 animals in all.
Construction of the complex was completed in the autumn of 2025. The herd was then assembled in stages and production processes were launched. The first animals arrived in 2026, and the farm's first calves were born in March. Once deliveries are complete, the farm will be fully stocked with imported livestock.
In East Kazakhstan Region, the Moiyldy-Baikonur LLP dairy farm has taken delivery of 224 Holstein heifers from Perm Krai in Russia.
The farm is designed for 1,075 head of cattle. The company has modern equipment, the necessary agricultural machinery and its own feed base. It has more than 4,500 hectares of arable land to provide feed for the animals.
According to the Ministry of Agriculture, the measures are expected to help farms steadily renew their herds, raise animal productivity and expand production capacity.
Earlier, Kursiv wrote that the Ministry of Agriculture sees no grounds for a sharp rise in beef prices. According to Vice Minister Nazgul Khatepova, the domestic market is fully supplied by domestic production: 434,000 tonnes of beef were produced in the country last year. At the time of her statement, the average price was around 3,800 tenge per kilogram.
