Kazakhstan's women's field hockey team failed to hold on to a winning lead against group underdog Bangladesh at the 2026 Asian Games, finishing the match 3-3, infohub.kz reports.

In the 37th minute, Kazakhstan midfielder Viktoria Lobanova completed her hat-trick. The Kazakhs then led 3-1, but unfortunately could not hold on to the winning score.

After the group stage, the top two teams from each pool advance to the semifinals. The third- and fourth-placed teams will compete for places 5–8. The group underdogs will play for 9th and 11th places.

The 2026 Asian Games champions will earn a berth at the 2028 Olympics. The next four teams will play in the Olympic qualifying tournament.

Kazakhstan's women's hockey team has participated in the Asian Games four times. In Bangkok 1998 and Incheon 2014, they finished sixth; in Guangzhou 2010, seventh. At the previous Asian Games (Hangzhou 2022), the Kazakhs placed eighth.

The 20th Summer Asian Games officially opened on September 19 and will end on October 4. Athletes from 45 countries are competing for 460 sets of medals. Kazakhstan's team at the 2026 Asian Games includes 558 athletes in 35 sports.

On the first day of the Games, Kazakhstan won four gold medals. Cyclists Rinata Sultanova and Alexey Lutsenko, as well as karateka Zholaman Bigabyl and Sofia Berultseva, became champions. MMA fighter Yerkingali Burkutalin added a fifth gold to the team's tally. The sixth came from his mixed martial arts teammate Kadyrbek Shynbayev. On September 23, Lutsenko became a two-time champion of the 2026 Asian Games. The eighth gold was won the day before by rowers Vladislav Yakovlev and Ivan Chernukhin in the men's coxless pairs.

After five days of the Games, Kazakhstan was in fourth place in the unofficial medal standings.
