Kazakhstan is considering introducing mandatory health insurance for foreign tourists. The initiative is included in the draft 'Program for the Development of the Insurance Market until 2030', developed by the Agency for Regulation and Development of the Financial Market (ARDFM) together with experts, reports infohub.kz.
According to the document, the insurance policy for foreign guests will cover emergency and urgent medical care, as well as medical transportation and repatriation. The ARDFM emphasizes that the presence of insurance is planned to be confirmed digitally through the interaction of insurance and state information systems. This will reduce the number of paper documents and simplify the procedure for checking the policy.
Earlier it was reported that within the framework of the insurance market development program, it was proposed to introduce five new types of mandatory insurance for Kazakh citizens and businesses. In addition to catastrophe insurance, these include fire insurance, insurance for foreign tourists, and insurance for farmers. However, new types of mandatory insurance will not be introduced automatically.
The agency promises that an actuarial assessment will be conducted before each decision. This will determine the circle of policyholders and risks, the necessary coverage amount, the affordability of insurance premiums, and the existence of already functioning risk protection mechanisms.
Furthermore, the republic plans to change the procedure for providing information on health insurance for Kazakh citizens. The Ministry of Health's project aims to simplify online payment verification without the need to visit government agencies.
