Rules for the labeling and traceability of dietary supplements came into force in Kazakhstan on October 10, 2026. The document governs the application of digital codes to packaging, the registration of products, and the tracking of their movement from manufacturer or importer to buyer, the website infohub.kz reports.

Consumer packaging of supplements must carry a scannable two-dimensional DataMatrix GS1 code. The label must be affixed so that it cannot be removed without being damaged.

Manufacturers are required to label supplements before the goods are first transferred for further sale. Importers must do so before the products are brought into Kazakhstan or placed under customs procedures for release for domestic consumption or re-import.

Market participants must register in the digital labeling and traceability system. Manufacturers and importers also register the supplements themselves: information about the product card, including its name, country of origin, dosage form, shelf life and state registration certificate, is entered into the system.

The document provides for combining individual packages into shipping containers while preserving the links between codes. This makes it possible to track the movement of products without opening the boxes.

For retail sales, the seller must scan the code on the packaging with a device connected to a cash register. The code data is included in the receipt, and the sale information is transmitted to the labeling system.

If a customer returns a labeled product, the rules provide for it to be put back into circulation with the relevant information submitted.

Unlabeled supplements produced before the mandatory labeling date may be sold until their shelf life expires. Market participants may also voluntarily label such remaining stock.

Mandatory labeling of supplements on the established list was introduced on September 1, 2026. The rules taking effect on October 10 and the launch of full traceability on March 1, 2027 are separate stages in the rollout of the system.

The Naqty Onim app is available for checking labels. Buyers can scan the DataMatrix code on the packaging to obtain information about the product. If the label is missing, damaged or cannot be read, this can be reported through the app.
