A large-scale inspection of maternity facilities in Kazakhstan has ended, revealing violations in 29 of them. According to infohub.kz, the Ministry of Health checked 82 out of 84 such institutions, including 35 perinatal centers and 47 maternity wards.
Specialists assessed compliance with infectious safety requirements, checking sterilization and disinfection systems, ventilation and water supply, as well as the procedures for detecting infections and the work of infection control services. Laboratory tests were also conducted, allowing an assessment not only of documentation but also of the actual conditions of medical care.
As a result, 81 sanitary orders were issued. Violations of the disinfection and sterilization regime were recorded in 29 medical organizations. Targeted response measures were taken for cases requiring immediate risk elimination, the statement said.
First Vice Minister of Health Timur Sultangaziyev instructed regional health departments to ensure monthly monitoring of the implementation of the orders and to bring the sanitary and technical condition of maternity facilities into compliance with established requirements. He also ordered strengthening the staffing of infection control services, updating infection prevention programs, and increasing the personal responsibility of heads of medical organizations.
“Our task is not just to record a violation and issue an order. In a month, we must return and see a concrete result. If a deficiency is identified, it must be eliminated. Patient safety must be confirmed not by reports, but by real conditions of medical care,” Sultangaziyev emphasized.
The next stage will be inspections of children's hospitals, after which similar work will be carried out in primary health care organizations.
